The financial results of the banks in the period from 2018 to 2022

The banking sector in Macedonia in general has not changed in the past five years. The only changes that occurred in terms of the banks operating on the market are the merging of Ohridska bank with Sparkasse bank in 2020, as well as the cessation of operations of Eurostandard bank, which was in bankruptcy for several years.
The financial results of the banks in the period from 2018 to 2022

In 2022, there are 13 active banks working with individuals and legal entities on the banking market. In this analyzed period, the four largest banks remain unchanged and with almost the same ranks every year. Those are Stopanska Bank AD Skopje, Komercijalna Bank AD Skopje, NLB Bank AD Skopje and Halk Bank AD Skopje.

From the data shown on the graph in the text below, it can be noted that the total capital and reserves in 2018 amounted to MKD 63.1 billion and have been increasing every year since then. The biggest increase is in 2022, when banks realized MKD 93.5 billion in capital and reserves or 13.16% more than the previous year.

As for the realized profit before taxation, there are also downward movements here, in 2019 and 2020 when the total profit decreased by 10.9% and 8.6%. In 2021 there is an increase of 26.6%, while in 2022 there is a significant increase of 199.78% and then the total profit was MKD 30.1 billion.

Regarding the number of employees, unfortunately, the trend is decreasing and every year fewer and fewer people are employed in these institutions. Starting with 5763 persons in 2018, the banking sector ended 2022 with 5.9% less employed persons or 5424.
