The major players on the labor market

One of the most important aspects that the largest and most successful companies influence, and thereby contribute to the rise of the Macedonian standard and the economy in general, is employment.

A fair part of the companies that are ranked on the lists of 200 largest and 200 most successful are also foreign direct investments that employ several thousand people in their plants. But there are also domestic companies that are not far behind and are counted as one of the largest employers on the market.

In this analysis, we present the 50 largest employers for 2022. The complete list is given in the text below, and the rest of the data on the number of employees is available on the portal.

As can be seen, the largest employer last year was the German giant Kromberg and Schubert Makedonija Bt DOOEL, a cable harness company for the automotive industry located in the industrial zone in Bitola. In 2022, as many as 6270 people worked here. Second on the list is DMM Drexlmaier Manufacturing Macedonia DOOEL, which is also involved in the production of equipment for the needs of the automotive industry. The company is also a foreign direct investment, which last year had 6213 employees.

Next on the list is AD ESM, which is a state-owned company and its main activity is production of electricity. 4258 people were employed in ESM last year.

On the 4th and 5th place on the list of the largest employers are again foreign direct investments which, like the previous ones, deal with the production of equipment for the automotive industry. In 4th place is Amphenol Technologies, located in Kocani, where 2535 people worked, and in 5th place is Genterm Severna Makedonija DOOEL from Prilep. 2322 people were employed in Genterm.

We conclude that in spite of everything, the largest employments are in the companies that are foreign investments, and as an activity in which the most people are employed is the automotive industry, i.e. the production of various equipment for its needs.
