ALMA-M: A regional company that brings world brands to the Balkans

Behind the availability of products such as Nestlé, Mars, Ferrero, Zott, Orbit, Pedigree, M&M's, Skittles, Snickers and dozens of other well-known brands on supermarket shelves is a complex distribution system, represented by the company Alma-M , which has been building its success story in Macedonia and the neighboring countries for decades .

In the last three decades, ALMA-M has grown from a local distributor into one of the largest regional distribution groups in the food sector.

Today, ALMA-M is not only present in Macedonia. The company has also built its own network in Kosovo and Albania, creating a regional system that connects global manufacturers, domestic retail chains and end consumers.

Stable growth and development and solid positioning within the 200 LARGEST AND MOST SUCCESSFUL

The financial results for 2024 show that the company continues to grow steadily , although this was a year of rising prices and price shocks, which also affected the economy.

According to official statistics, the consumer price index in 2024, compared to 2023, recorded an increase of 3.5 percent, and the retail price index of 3.8 percent, but ALMA – M once again demonstrated maturity as a company and the ability to deal with unpredictable business flows.

According to data included within the framework of the 200 LARGEST AND MOST SUCCESSFUL project , ALMA-M achieved total revenues of 3,663,942,418 denars , or about 59.6 million euros, which represents an increase of 5.77 percent compared to the previous year.

Pre-tax profit reached 214,407,122 denars , or approximately 3.5 million euros . This means that profit increased by 5.58 percent compared to the previous year , while the company employed an average of 315 people during the year.

With these results, the company is positioned in 87th place among the largest companies. in Macedonia, while in terms of profit it is in 95th place among the most successful , confirming its stable position in the domestic economy.

More than 35 years of continuous development

The history of ALMA-M begins more than three and a half decades ago, in 1991, and the company today represents one of the most recognizable distribution companies in the region.

Initially engaged in the import and export of consumer goods, over the course of its operations it gradually expanded its offering, invested in modern logistics capacities and built partnerships with leading world producers of food, beverages and consumer products.

This development resulted in the creation of a regional group that today operates in three countries and has more than 1,100 employees.

According to data published by the company, the group has 338 employees in distribution in Macedonia, 287 in the distribution and retail segment and 462 employees in the retail business in Kosovo, making it one of the largest private companies in its sector.

Global brands as a measure of trust

One of ALMA-M's largest competitive advantages is its partnerships with global companies.

Its portfolio includes names such as Nestlé, Mars, Ferrero, Zott, Wrigley, Mogyi, Orbit, M&M's, Snickers, Skittles, Pedigree and numerous other internationally recognized brands.

For a company operating in distribution, such partnerships represent much more than commercial agreements. They are proof of meeting high standards in logistics, quality, warehousing, transportation, and supply chain management.

At the same time, they ensure that products reach consumers on time and in accordance with the strict standards set by global manufacturers.

In the modern economy, distributors are no longer just companies that transport products from one warehouse to another.

They are becoming an important part of the supply chain, as they allow global manufacturers to be present in local markets without developing their own distribution infrastructure.

For domestic retail chains, this means security of supply, and for consumers, continuous availability of recognizable brands. In such a system, the role of companies like ALMA-M is much broader than classic trade – they represent a logistics partner that creates a connection between international manufacturers and the local market.

Distribution as one of the drivers of trade

The work of a modern distribution company has long been limited to transporting goods from warehouse to market.

The adoption of new and cutting-edge technologies, increased awareness of product safety mean that behind every product that reaches the shelves of end consumers, there is a complex system that encompasses procurement, warehousing, inventory control, transportation, order management, and coordination with hundreds of points of sale.

Given that we live in a time of strong market competition and when consumers expect products to be constantly available, the role of distribution companies is becoming increasingly important.

That is why companies like ALMA-M represent an important link that connects global manufacturers with the domestic retail sector.

Stable growth in the face of strong competition

The consumer goods distribution market is one of the most competitive segments of the economy.

Companies are constantly faced with rising costs for transportation, storage, labor, and logistics, as well as changing consumer habits.

In such conditions, revenue growth of 5.77 percent and profit of over 214 million denars are an indicator that the company is successfully adapting to market changes.

It is particularly significant that such results are achieved in a sector where profit margins are traditionally low and competition is extremely strong.

From Macedonia to the region

One of the features that sets ALMA-M apart from many domestic companies is its regional strategy.

The company , after only five years of its existence, showed in 1996 that it was breaking through the borders of the Macedonian market and successfully transferred its experience to Kosovo and Albania.

Such diversification and expansion into multiple markets brings more opportunities for growth, but at the same time requires significantly more complex logistics management, different legal frameworks, multiple markets, and different consumer habits.

That is why regional presence represents one of the company's greatest competitive advantages.

Confirmation of successful development

The financial results for 2024 once again show that ALMA-M is successfully continuing its development path.

With revenues of almost 60 million euros, a profit of around 3.5 million euros, more than 315 employees in Macedonia and over 1,100 employees within the group, the company remains one of the most significant distributors in the region.

But perhaps the greatest value of ALMA-M is not its financial indicators, but the fact that for more than 35 years it has managed to maintain the trust of the world's largest manufacturers and at the same time expand its network beyond the borders of Macedonia.

In an economy where success increasingly depends on efficient logistics and a secure supply chain, ALMA-M is an example of how a local company can build a regional business with long-term growth, stable partnerships, and a recognizable position in the Balkan market.
