SASA: Financial results followed by investments in the community and sustainable development

SASA from Makedonska Kamenica achieved revenue of 5.83 billion denars and profit of over 1 billion denars in 2024, while simultaneously investing in local development, entrepreneurship, education and environmental protection.

In modern corporate operations, success is increasingly measured not only through financial results, but also through contributions to the community, the environment, and sustainable development. The SASA mine in Makedonska Kamenica is an example of a company that has recently sought to link economic performance with broader social impact.

According to the data from the 200 Largest and Most Successful edition, based on financial results for 2024, SASA ranks 47th in terms of total revenue and 17th in terms of pre-tax profit. The company generated revenue of 5.83 billion denars and pre-tax profit of over 1 billion denars, while the average number of employees was 779 people.

These indicators position the company among the more significant corporate entities in the country, especially if we take into account the ratio between the number of employees and the achieved financial results. However, in addition to the economic dimension, in recent years SASA has also paid significant attention to initiatives aimed at the local community and environmental protection.

One of the most significant examples is the work of the SASA Foundation, which in 2026 provided financial support for four new local businesses through the accelerator program "Start Your Business Adventure in Makedonska Kamenica". Through grants totaling up to 50,000 euros, projects in the fields of tourism, agriculture and local services were supported, with the aim of encouraging entrepreneurship and creating new economic opportunities in the region.

In parallel with the economic initiatives, the company also implements activities aimed at protecting the environment. During 2026, the eco-campaign "Your care for the planet is worth x2" was implemented, the aim of which is to encourage recycling and raise environmental awareness among employees and the local population. The campaign is implemented in partnership with the municipality and specialized waste management organizations, which further emphasizes the importance of cooperation between the business sector and local institutions.

Activities related to biodiversity protection and climate action also attract particular attention. On the occasion of World Environment Day, SASA implemented an initiative in cooperation with educational institutions and the PE "National Forests", aimed at educating young people about the importance of natural resources, climate challenges and the preservation of the biodiversity of the Osogovo Mountains.

As part of its social responsibility strategy, the company also pays attention to the youngest members of the community. The "Super Good Deeds" campaign involved children from kindergartens, primary schools and daycare centers in activities related to recycling, solidarity and environmental care, combining education, practical action and support for vulnerable categories of citizens.

The example of SASA shows that corporate success and social responsibility do not have to be seen as separate categories. On the contrary, more and more companies recognize the need for financial results to be accompanied by investments in human capital, local development and the protection of natural resources. In this context, the activities that the company is implementing in Makedonska Kamenica are an example of an approach that seeks to convert economic value into broader value for the community.
