EVN's drastic jump on the list of the Largest and Successful

The year 2023 was crucial for a number of companies in the energy sector.

After the energy crisis the country faced the previous year, caused by excessive import dependence and external influences, this year marked a turning point in the operations of companies.

EVN ended 2023 with a total revenue of 5,239,035,750 denars .

The company recorded a revenue growth of 34.53 percent , which was a great success, considering that in the previous year, EVN recorded a revenue decrease of 85.86 percent .

Additionally, the growth in pre-tax profit in 2023 was 564.93 percent .

In terms of rankings, the company saw a jump of 19 places on the most successful list and a jump of 55 places on the largest companies list.

As a reminder, EVN finished the turbulent year 2022 in 72nd place on the list of the largest and 59th place on the list of the most successful companies.

It is noteworthy that in both years there is no drastic difference in the number of employees, so if in 2022, during a time of crisis, the company operated with an average of 213 employees, in 2023 it employed 218 people.

Even after increasing competition, EVN remained the largest electricity supplier

The energy crisis of 2022 served as a lesson for everyone, and above all for companies in the energy sector.

It was clear that it was necessary to turn to renewable energy sources and increase domestic production as quickly as possible.

As the Regulatory Commission pointed out in its annual report , in 2023 the installed capacity of power plants from renewable energy sources accounted for 50% of the total installed capacity, while it accounted for 33% of the total production.

For the first time that year, domestic electricity production accounted for 97.25% of gross electricity consumption, while only 2.75% was provided by imports.

It is also significant that in 2023, the number of active electricity suppliers increased significantly and their number amounted to a total of 21.

This means that competition has increased, but EVN has continued to be the largest electricity supplier in North Macedonia.

"In 2023, less than half of the total consumption, i.e. 48.2% of the needs were provided by the open electricity market. About 27% of legal entities were supplied with electricity on the free market, while the rest, as well as households, were supplied through the universal electricity supplier EVN HOME DOO Skopje," the ERC report states.

Investments in renewable energy sources

Following global trends, EVN, through its company EVN Elektrani, has been massively investing in creating capacities for producing electricity from renewable sources in recent years.

The company operates 11 small hydropower plants that have been revitalized and fully automated.

Their total installed capacity is 47 MW , and the average production is 140 GWh. They provide electricity to about 20,000 households annually.

In addition to hydroelectric power plants, EVN also produces electricity in 6 photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 20 MW and an average annual production of 28 GWh.

The company's strategic goal is for the production of photovoltaic plants to reach 60 MW by 2030.

In addition, the company is investing in the renovation and reconstruction of high-voltage substations in several cities in the country, which allows for greater security in electricity supply, as well as the connection of new consumers and producers of renewable energy.

Investments, reliability, and safety make EVN still the first choice when considering electricity supply.

Although there are certain changes in the free market, in terms of providing households with electricity, EVN Home continues to function as a universal electricity supplier and occupy the dominant position in the energy market in North Macedonia.
