What do ISO and HACCP certification mean, and how does Pekabesko apply them in its production process?

Obtaining certifications is extremely important, and for companies like Pekabesko AD, which are leaders in the food industry, they are essential for ensuring safety and quality.

Pekabesko AD is a privately owned Macedonian company, whose main activity is the production of cured meat products and distribution of consumer products.

This is a company that has been in existence for 45 years and which began back in 1971, as a representative office of the largest agricultural corporation PKB Belgrade.

Today it is a large company with over 420 employees and has been a proud member of the family of 200 LARGEST AND SUCCESSFUL companies for 20 years.

In these 45 years, the company has undergone a series of transformations, both in terms of the production process, but also in terms of size, the way it works - so that today it is a modern company, which follows all good production practices in order to provide delicious, but also completely safe products on your table.

This claim is supported by the certificates it has acquired, as well as the standards that the company applies in its production method.

From the construction of larger and modernized production plants, to the application of good practices and product analysis, Pekabesko AD takes care of every step in the production of semi-durable and durable cured meat products that it places on domestic, as well as foreign markets.

HACCP standards for greater safety in production

Today, the range of cured meat products of Pekabesko AD includes a variety of types of durable, smoked and semi-durable products, and over 400 different products are distributed daily through their well-developed distribution network.

Since 2008, Pekabesko AD has fully implemented the HACCP quality standard, which is a guarantee for the safety and quality of products.

The abbreviation HACCP comes from the English expression Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point and is actually a systematic and preventive approach to food production, which identifies, investigates and controls hazards that can lead to foodborne illnesses.

It is a management system that monitors every step of production, from the delivery of raw materials to the creation of the final product.

The purpose of implementing this system is to identify and control critical points where hazards can be eliminated or reduced, or to establish procedures that enable those critical points to be controlled.

The implementation of this system makes it possible to significantly reduce risk and enable the production of safe food.

In 2012, Pekabesko opened a new Production and Logistics Center in the village of Kadino, Ilinden, where care was taken to implement all European and HACCP standards for the production of deli meats.

This plant has a production capacity of 35 tons per day, and has an extensive distribution network and warehouses with 7,500 pallet spaces in all storage modes.

ISO standards as a guarantee of quality

In 2016, Pekabesko became a certified company with the international standard ISO 22000:2005, and the certification is carried out by the prestigious international certification company TÜV NORD CERT.

TÜV NORD CERT is an international company based in Hanover, Germany that conducts research and awards certificates to companies and organizations, confirming that they meet all legal obligations and standards.

The ISO 22000:2005 certificate of the aforementioned company guarantees that Pekabesko AD meets all safety requirements in the production process of its products.

This is a globally recognized certificate, which is a very important segment in securing permission to export products to the EU and other countries.

Technical testing and analysis for even greater safety

The last of the series of steps that Pekabesko AD has introduced to guarantee the safety and quality of its products is the establishment of its own laboratory.

In order to improve quality, in 2017 Pekabesko established the laboratory for technical testing and analysis TIMKO LAB, which is accredited according to the international standard ISO 17025.

This certificate guarantees that it has a quality management system in place and possesses the technological competence to ensure precise and accurate testing and provide accurate results.

This was just another in a series of steps that guarantee the quality of the company's products, which in turn contributed to even greater growth and development, as well as presence in foreign markets.

In 2023, Pekabesko AD ranked 48th on the ranking list of the largest companies in North Macedonia and 136th on the ranking list of the most successful companies .

The company achieved total revenue of 5,540,269,400 denars and an increase in profit before tax of 153,526,024 denars .

In percentage terms, the amount of revenue growth compared to the previous year 2022 is 3.40% , while the growth in profit before tax is a solid 33.86%.

Thanks to these financial indicators, Pekabesko has recorded a jump in the rankings within the 200 LARGEST AND SUCCESSFUL in North Macedonia.
